Speaker: Prof. Yong Jin Kim

Prof. Yong Jin Kim
Biography:Yong Jin Kim is Professor of MIS at Sogang Business School and Head of Smart Fintech Research Center funded by Korean Government. Recently he was awarded Order of Service Merit (Green Stripe) by Korean Government. He will be the president of Asia Council for Small Business and the president of Korea Society of MIS. He is the Editor-in-Chief of Korea Business Review and the president of Academic Association of Korea Motor Industry. He is a member of Financial Regulatory Sandbox (run by Korea Financial Services Commission) and SME Policy Deliberation Committee. He is an outside board member of Hyundai Department Store which is one of the biggest retail companies in Korea. He has also served on various government committees. Before he joined Sogang, he was on the faculty of the State University of New York at Binghamton. He has published over 50 papers since 2002 in the top quality journals including MIS Quarterly and Communications of the ACM. He has also published several books about service innovation. His research interest is in the area of digital transformation, business model innovation, knowledge management, and entrepreneurship. He has plenty of industry experience with information systems integration projects and strategic planning.

Abstract:Due to the advancement of LLM based AI technology, the development of AI models and application has been spotlighted in both practice and academia. The catch phrase for CES 2024 was ‘AI for All, All On’, which means that AI has been penetrating everything and everyday life and always working even in the time people do not recognize it. That is, the world is moving from a digital era to a digilog era which integrates digital and analog to make people’s life easier. The core implication of the CES 2024 is that AI is working as an enabler for on-demand service. The key trends in AI application in the business can be categorized in 9 dimensions: Ephemeral to Embedded, Centralized to Decentralized, Discrete to Ambient, 3D to 4D, Opaque to Transparent, Tethered to Freed, General to Personalized, Effort to Effortless, and Red to Green. Out of the nine dimensions, three dimensions of General to Personalized, Discrete to Ambient, and Effort to Effortless are directly related to on-demand service. Most of the business cases which were awarded as big innovation were analyzed to conceptualize the dimensions.
Prof. Emeritus Bob Fox
Biography: Emeritus Professor Bob Fox. Former Professor Curriculum, Office of the Pro Vice-Chancellor Education and Student Experience at UNSW Sydney (2013-2020) and Professor of Innovation in Higher Education, School of Education at UNSW (2013-2019). Awarded University Teaching Fellow, The University of Hong Kong (HKU). Professor (Hon) Faculty of Education, HKU (2013-2018). 2000-2013 Associate Professor and Deputy Director, Centre for IT in Education and A/Dean (Learning Environments), Faculty of Education HKU, with one year as Professor and A/Director, Centre for Learning Enhancement and Research at Chinese University. Professor Fox was A/Director, Centre for Advancement of Education at Curtin University, Perth for 13 years; a senior lecturer in vocational training for four and a further education lecturer for two years. His doctoral studies focussed on teaching with and through technology. He has published around 150 papers on innovation, change and learning environments in higher education. His research focuses on learning, teaching and technological practice and change in higher education; blended, online and mobile learning; change and e-leadership.

Title: Technological Practice and Change in University
Abstract: The rapid evolution of technology continues to present both solutions and challenges within universities. The COVID-19 pandemic necessitated a significant reliance on technological practices. The lessons learned during this period have been invaluable. Educators are in a stronger position to face the next challenge presented by the widespread adoption of artificial intelligence, particularly through tools like ChatGPT. Frameworks and processes have emerged which can aid educators to develop ways of integrating waves of technological developments into teaching and learning effectively. This keynote will review case studies in university that have successfully implemented technology-led learning initiatives, emphasizing the importance of sustainable curriculum and course design. Additionally, it will explore the capacity building required among staff to maintain and foster innovation and change within the academic environment.

Prof. Eric Tsui
Biography: Eric Tsui is the Associate Director of the Behaviour and Knowledge Engineering (BAKE) Research Centre as well as a Senior Project Officer at the Educational Research Centre at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University. Since 2015, he served as the Managing Regional Editor (Asia) of the Journal of Knowledge Management and had led and delivered a Master Knowledge Management program for over 15 years. Eric has also championed many technology-enhanced teaching and learning projects and is a crusader of technology-enhanced learning at the university. His research interests include Knowledge Management technologies, blended learning, cloud services, and collaborations. Eric is the leader of a Professional Certificate program that consists of two Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs) on edX that cover the topics of Knowledge Management, Big Data, and Industry 4.0. He holds B.Sc. (Hons.), PhD, and MBA qualifications. A recipient of many Knowledge Management and E-Learning international awards, including the Knowledge Management Award for Excellence in 2021 and among the top 50 most influential people in tacit knowledge management by GO-TKM in 2023, Professor Tsui was twice listed as an exemplary/outstanding academic in PolyU Annual Reports in the last 7 years.

Abstract: While many institutions are still discussing, debating the role of G-AI in teaching, learning and assessments, as well as formulating policies and guidelines for its use, the presenter will share experience and lessons learnt from leveraging Chat-GPT as a platform for enhancing students' learning of a discipline as well as nuturing critical soft skills, all accomplished via setting up a competition between ChatGPT and the Professor. As a result, students' motivation to learn are much enhanced. This talk will address the processes, pedagogy, as well as the feedback from students and teachers in the use of ChatGPT to stage competitions in class.

Biography: Dr. Piet Kommers, Professor in Learning Technologies and emeritus of the University of Twente. He is main researcher in Helix5, pioneer in media education and leader of NATO Advanced Research Workshops on Cognitive Learning Tools. UNESCO professor and scientific leader with extensive experience in educational technology and social media. Ph.D. holder in Educational - and Media Design, with a Master in Pedagogy and a bachelor’s degree in Teacher Education. He received the prestigious academic award for innovative ‘Experimental Design’ and was offered a research position in collaborative group problem solving wherein he designed the ‘Concise Urban Planning Task’.
